Energize Your Life!
Eat Healthy – Be Active

Today there are now more of us who are overweight and obese. We live in a physical environment that encourages us to eat unhealthy foods and makes it difficult to get anywhere unless we drive there. Physical activity has been engineered out of our lives.

Thirty years ago, children walked to school and played outside in any kind of weather. Many people walked to work or walked a few blocks to and from the bus or train station.

We have busy schedules and often choose fast foods rather than planning meals with healthy ingredients.

The food industry has been all-too-willing to help us with drive-through service and super-sized servings at a lower cost, not to mention bombarding us with messages about all of the tasty fattening things we could be eating right now.

If you know that you have more than a few pounds to shed and most of your physical activity is walking to the kitchen for another snack, our advice is to take small steps (External Site) and consider having a chat with your health-care provider. Your local health department (WA DOH Site) can also help you find help in your community.
